Yay Pamie and Stee: A Book Drive for a Wedding

Pamie (of Pamie.com) and Stee are getting married Dec. 31, 2004. To celebrate their first month of wedded bliss, we're hosting a book drive for the library of Alvarado Elementary School in San Francisco, CA, modeled after Pamie's book drives for the Oakland and San Diego library systems.

One Drive Ends, Another Begins

Because Pamie herself has started her 2005 drive, we're going to officially declare this one closed. Pamie and Stee have been married 4 1/2 months and they seem to be doing okay :).

Thanks to everyone who participated! We donated a total of 33 books (plus one tsunami relief donation) to Alvarado Elementary School. Not bad for a seat-of-the-pants drive. Thanks to the lady herself and to Allison for the support.

Cool Kid: Cheyenne-Gilmore

Cheyenne-Gilmore (a distant cousin of Lorelai and Rory, natch) sends a message:

I sent in The Ersatz Elevator (A Series of Unfortunate
Events, Book 6). I figured kids might be more
interested in them these days, what with the movie
having come out recently and all.
Happy Marriage, Pamie and Stee!

- Cheyenne-Gilmore

There can never be enough Lemony Snicket.

The administrators would like to note that C-G actually sent in news of her donation last Tuesday, and we were very neglectful in posting it. Apologies!

Cool Kid: #6

The mysterious and dashing #6, known around MATH+1 as a Sultan of Science, has donated Amelia's School Survival Guide.

We would like to take this opportunity to say that this charity drive is very pro-science. Science rocks. Science babies rock, as well.

Cool Kid: Loree

Says our newest Cool Kid, Loree:

I donated:

1 of: Revolting Rhymes [School & Library Binding]
By: Roald Dahl

1 of: Why Girls Are Weird : A Novel [Paperback]
By: Pamela Ribon

Congratulations Pamie and Stee! And many thanks to the Fans of Pamie!

Why Girls Are Weird might be a little heavy for some of the elementary schoolers at Alvarado, but maybe the librarians will get to read it during Quiet Hour, or the school equivalent.

Administrative Note

So The Folks Behind This Blog, more specifically The Person Who Checks the Email Address Behind This Blog, have (has) been slack of late. All recent donations should be up now, with the posts backdated to reflect the timing of the donation, not the slackness of the posting.

As of right now we're counting 23 books for Alvarado Elementary and 1 tsunami relief donation. Y'all be proud.

And if you want to join in, see here for instructions.

The Reason For All This

. . . can be seen here.

Also: you're welcome, Pamie.

Ain't No Heart Like Al's

We interrupt this report of massive amounts of donation to point out to you that it could not have happened without some support from Allison, who when not being an Elegant Cowgirl, no-fat latte drinker, published author, and Promoter of Fun, has given some of her space on the Internet to hype this blog. 'Preciate it, Miss Al.

What You Can Do

1. Buy a book off the Amazon.com wish list for Alvarado Elementary School. It will automatically be shipped to the school in San Francisco. If you want, you can put, "In honor of Pamie at Pamie.com" as a message so the school knows why it's getting lots of books all of a sudden.

2. Or, if you'd prefer, you can donate to relief funds related to the Asian tsunami. Tsunami Help is compiling information; The Command Post has compiled a list of places to donate in several different countries.

3. Either way, let us know what you've done by emailing yaypamieandstee at yahoo dot com. Include the title(s) of the book(s) you've donated, your name, and personal home page URL if you want us to post those, along with any comments. If you're donating for tsunami relief, we won't publish the numerical amout of your donation.

The Story So Far: Alvarado Elementary School

After some poking around on Amazon, we decided to pick Alvarado Elementary School in San Francisco (see the school profile). One of the MATHletes recommended the school: "I've been really impressed with the teachers' committment to all their students on my visits there. It's a cool place."

Also, it happens to have an Amazon wish list.

The Story So Far: Pamie

So Pamie, author of the novel Why Girls Are Weird, playwright, actress, TV writer, and queen of Pamie.com, has a lot of fans.

So many fans that way back in 2001 when she had to close down Pamie.com's original bulletin board, Squishy, the people who had met there started up at least two boards -- MATH Plus One and Squishettes -- just to keep up with all the conversations.

So many fans that when she announced book drives to benefit the public libraries of Oakland (hit hard by budget cuts) in 2003 and San Diego (hit hard by fire) in 2004, her readers responded by the hundreds.

Pamie has a particular fan in Stee. On December 31st, Pamie and Stee are getting married.

This is the space for Pamie's fans to celebrate the wedding of Pamie and Stee with a California library book drive of their own.
